Toshiba 52LX177 LCD TV

Saturday, November 24, 2007

Toshiba announced for HDTV market Toshiba 52LX177. This new unit is of Toshiba’s impressive 52-inch LCD HDTV. The 52LX177 is packed with a 1080p full HD LCD screen for the highest HD resolution along with ClearFrame 120Hz Anti-Blur Technology, which uses a very high 120Hz rate to add extra in between frames to reduce judder and motion blur significantly.

As your source for digital home entertainment, Toshiba offers one of the most extensive television lineups in the industry.

First of all, the set is clad in an all black casing. It is topped with a glossy black frame finish complete with a stretched-out U-shaped black stand. The speakers are discreetly hidden along the bottom edge of the frame and angled downward. The only notable decorations on its otherwise simple front are a series of white logos that, given the set’s many capabilities, are commendably circumspect. The 52LX177 measures approximately 50.5×33.4×15.4 inches and weighs 103.2 pounds including stand.

Users can safely say that the Toshiba 52LX177 is (maybe) one of the best-featured LCD available today. Naturally, it has a native resolution of 1080p, so its 1,920×1,080 pixels can resolve every detail of today’s highest-quality HDTV sources. All non-1080-resolution sources, from standard TV to DVD to 720p HDTV, are scaled to fit the pixel array.

The 1080p (1920×1080 pixels) LCD uses Toshiba’s ColorBurst ultra wide color gamut technology which expands the number of available colors and color accuracy to make the images even more vibrant and lifelike. The Toshiba 52LX177 also has a dynamic backlight control which adjusts the backlighting levels of the set to dramatically increase the contrast ratio and black levels of the set.

Along with these features, the 52LX177 also comes with a great selection of inputs, including three HDMI 1.3 inputs which support Deep Color, 1080p /60/24Hz and CE-LINK for controlling other entertainment equipment through the set.

As for its performance, a lot of sites have mentioned that the 52LX177 reproduces a deep level of black for an LCD. Its 120Hz display addresses some motion blur and can remove most judder from film-based sources. Furthermore, it has solid uniformity across screen and numerous picture controls.

Samsung LN-T4061FX LCD TV

Thursday, November 22, 2007

he elegant LNT4061F LCD combines high style and high definition in equal measure. With true 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, it creates a brilliantly sharp, detailed picture. Samsung’s ultra-fast switching technology and 8-millisecond response time decrease blurring, so even high-speed sports remain crisp and easy on the eyes. Plus, progressive scan technology eliminates the flicker that you see on traditional, interlaced scanning TVs. And it’s all wrapped up in the gorgeous frame.

For 2007, Samsung has added three HDMI inputs to the LNT4061FX. HDMI is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all high definition formats including 720p and 1080i. An all-digital, uncompressed signal translates into the highest quality video and audio, seen and heard, direct from the source. Even if you have components that don’t provide a high definition signal, a built-in image scaler handles inputs from a variety of digital and analog sources. This means the LNT4061F will scale a standard definition picture up to high definition.

Although we’re ushering in a new high-definition, HDMI era, most of us are still clinging to at least one perfectly good component, whether it be an older DVD player or even older VCR. The LNT4061F includes two S-video inputs, two component video inputs, and two A/V inputs.

High definition is altering how the world does business. Thanks to a special PC input and the high definition 1920 x1080 pixel resolution, the LNT4061FX does double-duty as a high-resolution computer monitor — perfect for presentations — without any sacrifice in picture quality. Whether you work in graphic design or public relations, Samsung lets you adapt to the expanding multi-media revolution. The LNT4061F even comes equipped with a USB 2.0 port for expanded audio/video use.

HP SL4278N LCD HDTV

It looks like a standard LCD TV, but HP’s MediaSmart 1080p LCD HDTV will bring you more than just television and DVDs. The SL4278 has a built-in network media device that allows you to create a wireless Ethernet connection to your computer. On a full 1080p high-definition screen, you’ll enjoy videos, pictures, and music stored on any PC in your wireless home network. And a broadband Internet connection will supply you with a variety of online media: movies, Internet radio, photos, and more — MediaSmart is ready for it all. Plus it spares you the annoying clutter of dealing with an outboard networking box.

As mentioned above, with MediaSmart you can see your photos and videos on the big screen — but don’t stop there. You can also stream high-definition video, rent and buy movies straight from your television, and even watch movies while they are still downloading. Out of ideas? Well, if you get tired of those great options, go ahead and listen to internet radio stations and access news reports, traffic updates, TV programming, and all the entertainment options you already enjoy about the Internet — from the comfort of your couch. Of course, there’s regular television programming to be had, too, and your TV is ready for it: Built-in analog and digital tuners are ready to go, right out of the box.

This TV doesn’t strain to stream content from your PC — That’s because the Integrated 802.11n wireless networking enables the streaming of high definition video while providing compatibility to existing Wi-Fi Networks. An industry-first, integrating 802.11n into your HDTV future-proofs your investment for many years to come — and you won’t be tripping over any cords when you get up for some more popcorn.

Japan tops HDTV viewership

According to research firm, SNL Kagan, the number of HTDT viewers globally has continued to increase, with more affordable HDTVs coming onto the market.

SNL Kagan’s new study, “Global High Definition Television Trends”, shows that Japan has the highest number of HDTV viewers in the world, helped by its pioneering experience in the HD market in the 1980s and 1990s.

Broadcasters in Japan offer low cost TV services, helping to drive demand, with some of them even offering HDTV for free.

The United States is currently in second place, but could overtake Japan by the end of 2008, when the number of US homes with HDTV is expected to have increased to 12 million, from 6 million at the moment.

According to SNL Kagan, HDTV markets in Canada, France and the United States have become better suited for pay-HDTV, and US Cable and satellite content providers are continuing to provide TV packages with a growing number of HD channels.

SNL Kagan estimates that the HDTV service provider market will generate revenues of over $1 billion in 2007, $11 billion by 2014, and $12 billion by 2016.

JVC LT-42X688 with 5th Generation Digital Image Scaling Technology

The JVC LT-42X688 is one of those sets that you would really appreciate. It produces images with such clarity that it feels that you are actually there. All this, thanks to JVC’s technology, like 5th Generation Digital Image Scaling Technology (D.I.S.T.) with GENESSA Picture Processing. Using an exclusive digital algorithm, D.I.S.T. detects and seamlessly upconverts any video source to display at 1080p.

Genessa provides 32-bit turbo-powered picture processing for faster and more efficient sampling to drastically reduce jagged edges and increase the resolution of all sources. The LT-42X688 also offers 1200:1 contrast ratio, 500 cd/m2 brightness level, and a 178-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angle.

The LT-42X688’s Digital Super Detail (DSD) circuitry is a state-of-the-art edge correction technology that works to reproduce completely focused pictures, whether the image is still or highly active. Providing this higher degree of focus ensures that every image is viewed at the highest possible resolution.

Digital Super Detail Circuitry keeps the picture completely focused for both still and highly active images. A 4-point Color Management System (CMS) compensates for color range limitations and ensures JVC colors are reproduced with dimension and vivid detail. Colors are truer and never tainted by surrounding or similar colors.

So the LT-42X688 has the technology to display HD programming in fantastic detail. This model is HD-integrated, a feature that maximizes your ability to tune in to the programming you want to see. A built-in ATSC tuner allows you to receive over-the-air digital terrestrial broadcasts. The clear QAM tuner allows you to receive unscrambled digital cable signals.

Selectable aspect modes let you choose the aspect ratio to suit your preferences. Standard signal modes include Regular, Panorama, Cinema and Full. HD signal modes include Full Native, Cinema Zoom and Panorama Zoom/Slim. By examining the brightness level of incoming image sources, Smart Picture technology compensates for scenes, frame by frame, to insure they are displayed at the perfect brightness level without sacrificing contrast as detail.

The LT-42X688 is equipped with dual HDMI/HDCP Digital Inputs that provide an uncompressed high bandwidth digital connection from any HDMI compatible device. This method of displaying digital signals allows for a noise-free, unaltered transmission of the digital content, and helps ensure you’ll be ready for the ever-increasing number of electronic components that are offering this dynamic interface.

Input terminals include the HDMI inputs, an RS232C, a DCR CableCARD slot, dual IEEE 1394 FireWire ports, a PC input as Input 3 (D-Sub 15 pin), a Smart Video Input, 2 Auto Sensing Component Video inputs, 2 S-Video inputs and 3 AV inputs. Output terminals include an optical digital audio output and a fixed audio output. With this variety of connections, you don’t have to worry about connecting your less-advanced heritage components to your new television.

Suited for premier sound quality, the LT-42X688 features 20 watts of total audio power, Advanced Hyper Surround sound, Vocal Enhancement On/Off in Menu and a Parametric Equalizer with MaxxBass for maximum bass response.

Samsung S204S burns without hard drives

Monday, November 19, 2007

Samsung has introduced a new DVD burner, the TruDirect SE-S204S (not pictured). While it plugs into desktop or notebook PCs, the S204S is unusual in that it does not require hard drive access; it can burn videos and photos directly from devices attached to a computer, without first demanding any pre-mastering, multiplexing or buffering. The on-board technology is also said to improve copying speeds in general, since a one-hour video stream can be burned directly in an hour and five minutes, or 30 minutes if copied to a hard drive first.

DVD-R/DL and DVD-RAM discs are written at up to 12x speed, while DVD+R/DL discs are written at 16x, and regular DVD+/-R discs copy at 20x. The S204S should out across the US for $160.

Samsung to turn to plasma in face of LCD shortage?

Saturday, November 17, 2007

Following rival LG Electronics (LGE)'s upcoming launch of a 32-inch PDP (plasma display panel) TV, Samsung SDI is also said to be developing similar products in order to meet demand driven by the persistent shortage of LCD TV panels.

Although Samsung SDI showed minimal interest in 32-inch PDP TVs in the past, the growing demand for PDP TV amid the LCD TV panel shortages, has prompted Samsung SDI to evaluate related offerings, according to industry sources. However, the company will not launch any 32-inch PDP TVs in the near term due to capacity constraints.

PDP TV panel capacity is tight due to buoyant demand from Samsung Electronics, Philips and some China-based customers, the sources explained. As Samsung SDI has no spare capacity to produce the 32-inch PDP TV panels, it has no plans to start volume production in the near term, although production is already ready.

With some industry players saying earlier that a possible 10% PDP TV panel shortage in Taiwan had been seen, some China TV vendors, finding insufficient panel supply, shifted to increase the proportion of their PDP TV offerings, the sources observed. Demand from China is getting strong as vendors are also under pressure to meet annual sales targets.
